Positive Minds Attract 2007 Rock Eisteddfod Challenge
The Rock Eisteddfod Challenge is a series of dance and drama events staged worldwide by school pupils as part of the Global Rock Challenge.
These events are initiated by the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge Foundation, and aim to promote healthy lifestyle choices, particularly abstinence from drugs, alcohol and cigarettes.
Streaky students rock on
The team had spent months practising and perfecting their routine for the competition, with many Sundays in the school gym getting everything right.
The day before the grand final Streaky Bay students participated in a choreography workshop at Brighton Secondary College and on grand final day the stage crew arrived at the Entertainment Centre at 4.45am, followed by the dancers at 6.30am ready for a 7am rehearsal.
The whole day was spent at the Entertainment Centre preparing for the evening performance which was spectacular. From all reports there were not too many dry eyes in the cheer squad that had turned up to support the team.
Streaky Bay teacher and Rock Eisteddfod co-ordinator, Kirri Minnican, said it was great to be part of an event that mixed students from years 6 to 12, where they participated together and such a close bond is formed.
The Rock Eisteddfod Challenge is a great way to get students to commit, overcome challenges and to strive for excellence outside of the classroom, she said.
Last Friday the Rock Eisteddfod team put on two community performances in the school gym to thank the school and the wider community for their support.
Students were involved not only in dancing, but in setting up the stage and lighting, and some students put together a video of the four-day grand final trip that was shown at the community performance on Friday.
