Apple Pay in Australia

In theory, any retailers that accept contactless (PayPass and payWave) peyments should accept Apple Pay. Australian MasterCard PayPass and Visa payWave cards cannot be added to Apple Pay in Australia, however overseas issued cards (eg, toursts/visitors!) should work fine here with Apple Pay.

The only Australian issued cards that are supported in Apple Pay are American Express cards issued directly. However, not all retailers that accept Amex, may accept contactless Amex transactions (‘Apple Pay’).

If a retailer does accept contactless Amex payments, then Apple Pay should work.

For chains such as Nando’s, Hungry Jacks, Subway, the franchisee may have different terminal hardware and agreements with banks and/or AMEX.
